jardin of eden
Earthly delights.....hermes' fragrance 'un jardin sur le nil' has us dreaming of our most loved. though we have not floated down the nile as the fragrances creator jean-claude ellena, this pale green liquid brings us to an entirely other summer daydream. the scent of lush fresh green mango juice immediately refreshes the senses while the following lotus flowers softly linger. as evening approaches incense and sycamore woods surface...truly becoming a skin scent (hot summer skin cooling off in night air). a memory more necessary during winter months than ever. available at www.hermes.com
(the new yorker article by chandler burr which initially inspired productaddict's purchase is worth a look...)

some girls
Not for everyone, this elusive liquid blending the truest of freshly cut white lilac, watery notes, orange tree leaves, cucumber and wheat. (yes, wheat, the quietly genius touch which only reveals itself during late drydown). created by the most fabulous olivia giacobetti for the mastermind frederic malle this fragrance was conceived while walking past a bakery carrying freshly cut white lilac on a dewy green spring morning. we know that doesn't immediately strike one as an ideal mixture to be wafting from ones skin. however, the skill with which the most authentic of lilacs (the truest productaddict has sniffed in liquid form) is so cleverly blended with the other notes evokes a moment...en passant. (in passing. we love that.) others have described experiencing olivia giacobetti's fragrances as staring at bright light through gauze. how dreamy. some girls really like en passant. available at www.editionsdeparfums.com. (we would like to warn you, prepare to linger.)
bye baies
We all love baies... we've been burning it and breathing it as long as we can remember. it's the perfect blackcurrant, a heady blackcurrant. it's not easy letting go. until we met santal. a creamy sandalwood unlike any other with the power to transform a living room into a lair. dim the lights and enjoy. available at www.diptyque.com
21st century soft
For all who have spent much too much time trolling ebay for hard to find ancient bottles of love's baby soft, only to receive them and realize the scent is nothing like the memory of that sweet sweaty slow dance with your seventh grade crush in the school gym...keiko mecheri has perhaps created the scent that is so deeply embedded in your memory. it's called 'loukhoum' and is named after a turkish delicacy. i cannot imagine a dessert item emitting a baby powder scent, but this is genius. it will bring you back. highly recommended. available (samples too) at www.luckyscent.com.
